Livelihood Initiatives of RDI have been as follows:
In the 90s, the following income generation activities were promoted : Poultry farming, Goat and Lamb rearing, Carpentry, Bee Keeping, Tailoring & Handicrafts (Stitching, painting, embroidery, Jewelry designing etc.).
The decade of 2000 was focused on developing federations through Credit Self Help Groups (72) and 120 farmer interest groups (altogether more than 6450 Farmers including women) were trained on organic farming, herbal cultivation, fodder management, soil testing, bio-fertilizer (compost pits etc.), cooperative management, food processing, dairy, mushroom cultivation etc. The federation has taken off on its own and today reaping huge benefits through organic basmati.
In the last five years, Community Contract farming was promoted. Aromatic plants (Rosa Damascene & Rosemary) cultivation as a research project was undertaken as a study in mountain areas.
