Rural Development Institute of the  Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, has been working on Adolescent Health and Development over the last 15 years, at various levels, including policy, program implementation and development of innovative kits and manuals. Scale up of successful models was carried out both within the state of Uttarakhand as well as beyond  in partnership with the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Women and Child supported by Bilateral agencies like USAID and WFP.  The areas covered included health and hygiene, sexual and reproductive health and personality development issues, for both school and out of school, married and unmarried adolescents.

Last year we developed the Adolescent Health counsellors training modules (Facilitators Guide and Resource Book) for Ministry of Health and Family Welfare supported by WHO as part of a comprehensive adolescent health program launched by Government of India.  This time the scope of areas was expanded to include healthy lifestyles, nutrition, non-communicable diseases, substance misuse and mental health issues.

A National level training of trainers (TOT) on the above modules is being conducted for the government representatives funded by UNFPA.  This is being done at two levels – the training of trainers at HIHT and the second level trainings in their respective states, overseen by our team.

The first batch was from March 9-14, 2015 comprising of participants from the States of West Bengal, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra.  The second batch training is from March 23-28, 2015 from the states of Assam, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Odisa (Orissa), Gujrat, Bihar and Punjab.
