RDI conducted activities from 5-10 June, 2018 to mark the World Environment Day with students from districts of Rudraprayag, Tehri and Dehradun. The main objective of the event was to sensitize the students towards the theme for the year “Beat Plastic Pollution” along with national campaign on “Good, Green, Deed in Everyday Life.” “My Carbon Footprint” software was introduced to students to assess the carbon footprint in their day-to-day life. Other activities like poster presentation, slogan and poem presentation were also conducted to highlight environment issues.

During activities, participants were introduced to the relevance of Environment Day and its importance in our life. They were sensitized for taking care of environment all through the life by keeping eyes open and to be active to bring some positive changes within ourselves and environment.

Students were motivated to sensitize their family members and society on this issue so that they can become active agents of this campaign in future. Options were shared with them like they can come together to explore sustainable alternatives and urgently reduce the production and excessive use of single-use plastic, since these are polluting our water bodies, damaging marine life and threatening human health. If each does at least one green good deed daily through small initiatives such as reduce plastic use and do plantation towards our Green Social Responsibility, there will be billions of green good deeds daily on the planet.

Concluding the events the students were motivated for playing the role of “Green Sainik” (soldier) who contributes for the environment and spreads sensitization towards Beat Plastic Pollution.
